What are CCAR Recovery Coach Academy Trainings – Hosted by Recovery Allies of West Michigan

The CCAR Recovery Coach Academy© is a 5-day intensive training hosted by Recovery Allies of West Michigan that focuses on providing individuals with the skills needed to guide, mentor, and support anyone who would like to enter into or sustain long-term recovery from an addiction to alcohol or other drugs.  IT IS ALSO FOR THOSE SIMPLY WISHING TO LEARN MORE ABOUT OR TAKE THEIR OWN RECOVERIES TO A DEEPER LEVEL.

The content provides participants with training that focuses on developing and refining skills necessary to responsibly provide the services of a Recovery Coach.  This includes learning new and less stigmatizing language, the art of active listening, and understanding your role and “lane” in the community.

The training provides participants with tools and resources that will give them confidence in their ability to provide recovery support services.  These resources will provide a base to help link people in recovery to needed supports within the community. Along with the materials and lectures, the interaction between participants will be a valuable part of the program.  ENGAGING AND THOUGHT PROVOKING EXCHANGE AND DIALOGUE IS A KEY COMPONENT TO THIS 5 DAY EXPERIENCE.

Who Should Attend?

This course is open to individuals who have an interest in providing support, mentorship and guidance to persons with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health disorders.  Individuals who are interested must be approved for participation by their employer, a coordinating agency or endorsed by someone in the community that can speak as a reference.  Participants should themselves be individuals in stable recovery or having a strong desire to learn about stable recovery.  The concept of a stable recovery is subjective and it’s hard to define how long that should be.  Still, it is important to those served that their coach have a relatively powerful personal understanding of and/or connection to dependency, addiction and recovery.

The Recovery Coach Academy is also for INDIVIDUALS SEEKING TO TAKE THEIR OWN RECOVERY TO A DEEPER LEVEL AND GAIN A GREATER UNDERSTANDING OF THE MULTIPLE PATHWAYS CONCEPT AND APPROACH TO WELLNESS FOLLOWING A SUBSTANCE USE ISSUE.  ANY ONE WISHING TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE NEW SHIFT IN RECOVERY IN THE U.S. IS WELCOME AND ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND.

What if I am not a person in recovery?

Again…  we welcome all individuals in the community who would like a better understanding of what a Recovery Coach does.  In the past we have enjoyed the company of social workers, doctors, psychologists and other clinicians in our sessions. Each individual left with a better understanding about the future of recovery supports.  There is sharing.  There is discussion.  There is open debate.  And, there are lots of stories, smiles and laughs.

The trainings are worth 12 hours towards becoming a Certified Peer Recovery Mentor by the Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals (MCBAP). For more information about becoming a Certified Peer Recovery Mentor please visit MCBAP’s website.
